This week’s blog is short and sweet – just like me!
I am busy clearing out the Attic at Ballakelly, it has been a storage place for my family’s ‘things’ for over 100 years, and Rachels for 10!
The attic at Ballakelly has become the place for all family members to leave all the things they don’t know what to do with but can’t bring themselves to throw away.
Dad loved to keep things just in case you needed one, eg plugs there is a whole case full of plugs chopped off appliances, funny thing was when he needed a plug he still went to town! I wont list all the things he saved for one of those days you might need one!
It is nice to look back over old memories, there are boxes of photographs, something we don’t have any more as we hold everything electronically. There is something special about looking at old photographs together in a book.
Rachel and I spent 4 hours clearing the ‘junk’ room yesterday, three of which were looking at old memories! The nice part was when we finally sat down by the fire, we had a happy feeling from revisiting all the happy times.
As we all know families come in all shapes and sizes, some you are close to and some you well enough said, this is a happy blog this week! I don’t have much close family left, just my wife and kids, but I do have lots of friends. Looking at mum and dad’s photos from their times here at Ballakelly I realised I now need to start creating my own memories that Harvey and Tinky can look back on when they clear out the Attic in 50 years!
I will leave you all with some thoughts, especially as we are all getting ready for Christmas, for every sad memory you need to think of 3 happy ones. Try to spread a bit of sparkle to someone who maybe need you to call and say hello.
Oh yeah! The festive sprit has arrived at Ballakelly, part of the attic clearance meant sorting the Christmas decorations. Alice and Evie thought it was time to get the tree up. Also, Rachel has been having cuddles with Santa which set her in the mood for festive fun!
Go on pick up that phone and call an old friend, meet for coffee….
